DoT/DoH configuration guide on iOS (version 14+)
This guide shows the steps required to configure DoT (DNS over TLS) or DoH (DNS over HTTPS) protocol on iOS devices with version 14 or later. The example images show the steps using an iPhone, but the procedure is identical for those using an iPad.
1. Creating the configuration profile In order to set up DoT/DoH on iOS, you must first create a configuration profile. You can use an online tool to generate it: 1.1 Go to the Secure DNS profile creator site directly from the browser of your iOS device. To be guaranteed that the procedure will work properly, we recommend that you use Safari as your browser; 1.2 Enter the required parameters, as follows:
- In the Name of DNS provider field you must enter the name of the profile you are creating, for example, “FlashStart.”
- Immediately below, you will find the two types of protocols available. Here, choose the one that best suits your needs from the options “DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH)” and “DNS-over-TLS (DoT).”
- Finally, enter the URL provided by the cloud panel in the DoH server URL or DoT server URL field, depending on the protocol selected in the previous step. NOTE: If you opted for DoH, make sure that the URL starts with the scheme related to that protocol, i.e., https://. Otherwise, the configuration procedure will fail.
2. At this point, you must click on the green button at the bottom, called “Add to profile,” which has the effect of generating the file with the profile inside. A dialog box will open confirming that the profile has been added. Click on the “Close” button.
3. To download the profile, simply click again on the green button at the bottom, this time titled “Download profile.” Another dialog box will open alerting you that a website is trying to download a configuration profile. To confirm, click “Allow.” Finally, a final dialog box will inform you that the profile has been successfully downloaded and can be installed from the system settings.
After downloading the configuration profile file from the website, follow these steps:
1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
2. Go to General > VPN and device management.

3. Here, under the section related to VPNs, you should see the profile that you precendently downloaded, under the name “Encrypted DNS (DoH, DoT).”

4. Tap Install and follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to enter your device unlock code to authorize the installation.
