Installing SSL Certificates on Android

Installing SSL certificates on Android devices is crucial for securing digital communication and protecting user privacy.

This guide will provide a step-by-step process for installing the certificate, including specific configurations for different device models. By following these instructions, users will be able to ensure a successful and secure installation of their SSL certificates.

1. Installation for android

Access the configuration

» Go to the admin panel of your Android device. From there, go to “Settings” and then “Security”.

» Under “Credential storage”, look for the option “Install from phone storage” or “Install from SD”, depending on your Android version, it may be displayed as: “Install from internal device memory”.

If this option is not visible, you can find it in “Advanced settings” under “Security” or even “Privacy”.

File selection

» When you select the install option, you will encounter the File Storage Manager. Browse for the SSL certificate file you have on your device.

Authentication

» If prompted, provide the password or passphrase PKCS#12 that you created earlier. This step verifies your authorization to install the certificate.

Name the certificate

» In the field designated for the certificate name, assign a descriptive name that will help you quickly identify the certificate.

Using credentials

Choose the appropriate “Use Credentials” option according to your security requirements. Select the appropriate one if you are using the certificate for VPN and Apps or Wi-Fi.

2. For Samsung devices:

» Certificate download: Download the required certificate to your device.

» Device settings: Access your device settings. Go to “Biometrics and security”. Within this section, look for“Other security settings”.

» Install the certificate: Choose “Install certificates from SD”.

» Click on “CA Certificate”.

» Click “Install anyway” to confirm your intention.

» Select the file and download the certificate by clicking “Download”. Finish the process by selecting “Securly”.

3. Verify the trustworthiness of your certificate:

If you are installing certificates manually on your Android devices, it is important to repeat these actions  on each new device you want to be within the scope of SSL filtering.

 To ensure the legitimacy and trustworthiness of the installed certificate follow these steps

The precise path to access the Trusted Credentials menu depends on the version of Android running on your device.

» Step 1: Open the Settings app: Launch the Settings app on your device.

» Step 2: Navigate to Trusted Credentials: Go to “Security.” Find and select “Trusted Credentials.” Click on the “User” tab within this menu.

» Step 3: Confirm the presence of the certificate: Following the above steps, the list of user certificates will be displayed.  

» If you find the certificate in this list, the installation was successful.
